Hiroshima Essay Topics
Hiroshima Essay TopicsThe first of two Hiroshima essay topics is based on an essay submitted by a student at Columbia University in the class 'Analysis of World Affairs.' After school I went to Columbia to work with John H. Richardson, a history professor. I started working with him and found out he had recently been asked to teach a war studies class on the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.I started getting messages from him asking me how I was able to understand the post-war years. He wanted to write a Hiroshima essay that would be based on these topics. He knew I was interested in studying American History so I asked him if he would write the class on World War II. He agreed. For the essay topic for this class, I started thinking about World War II. I discovered the Holocaust occurred primarily because of the second world war. There were two reasons why the Holocaust took place: first, the destruction of much of Europe's industrial production. In the years after the second world war, those countries which had lost almost all of their industrial production were forced to rebuild their economies. To compensate for the lack of industrial production, they sought trade routes to bring in food and raw materials from around the world. Many of these trade routes led to Nazi Germany and other places which committed mass murder. When these countries tried to help their German counterparts, the consequences of the war was quite dangerous. Unfortunately, the United States was caught up in this war and we did not realize it.To fully understand this text, I decided to teach the entire book first before I moved on to Hiroshima essay topics. This helped me gain a deeper understanding of how it happened and why it happened. After finishing the text I had understood the history of the Second World War, the methods used and the factors that lead to its occurrence. There was a time when the U.S. did not wish to use the atomic bomb and we were prepared to let Japan suffer t he consequences of the war. But, due to the United States' victory in the Second World War and our strong desire to protect our friends we chose to use the atom bomb. It was possible that the Japanese would have surrendered if we had not used the atomic bomb. But the people of Hiroshima knew the impact of the atomic bomb had on them and they did not care what the U.S. thought of them. The survivors of Hiroshima did not allow the war to control their lives and they did not listen to the politicians. They refused to accept the reality that a lot of people had died and they did not allow their dreams to die. The death toll had been far greater than expected. It was a death that was unjustifiable. As a result of the Hiroshima tragedy, many millions of people have died. Millions more are still dying. I think it is necessary to continue studying history and finding the facts in order to continue to reduce this death toll.
